The grinding of your teeth at night, also known as bruxism, is an everyday issue that affects many individuals. Although the most visible symptom is deterioration of the enamel of the teeth, nocturnal bruxism may also lead to tooth pain, headaches, and inflammation, plus discomfort in your neck and jaw. To guard your mouth from the effects of bruxism, dentist Dr. Kareem Abraham provides customized night guards that help defend your teeth while you rest. Custom night guards are created with high-grade materials that comfortably fit in your mouth and improve the nature of your sleep by eliminating jaw clenching and teeth grinding. "Dr. Abraham and his staff are great! Not only have they seen me, but our three kids (ages 8,8 & 9, yes twins) and our grandma. We've all seen dentists that are highly recommended, from Corona Del Mar to San Jose as we use to live in Silicon Valley, but I can honestly say that Sr.Abraham and his staff (from dental hygienists, front office staff to the Doc himself) are the best I've seen. They are obviously a for profit business, but they go out of their way to make sure you get more value than what you would ever expect. Dr.Kareem is above all, concerned with the overall health of our entire family. He does things like screen his patients for different issues, as a precaution and doesn't charge extra, just to make sure he has a good overall picture of your health and that you're well informed. I think the biggest thing though is everyone in our family likes going to the dentist because it's always a good experience. The doc is wonderful with our kids and they really like him. They've never complained of anything and that's great! I just recently found out that Dr.Kareem was listed as OC's top 10 doctors in Orange Coast magazine and he didn't pay them a dime, it was a total surprise to him."- S.B. / Yelp / Mar 20, 2019
"Dr. Abraham has been my primary dentist for the past 3 years and will continue to be my dentist in the future. The service is great and the staff is very friendly. From Ana P. In the front desk and Ana M., the dental assistant who is always kind and gentle when taking care of me. I got invisalign and whitening and have been very impressed with the results. I also chipped my front tooth at six flags and Dr. Abraham was able to fix it as if nothing happened. Happy to say the care i have received here has been incredible and the staff is amazing."- C.L. / Yelp / Nov 01, 2019

"Everyone is super friendly here!!! I've been going to the same dentist office since I was a child. I'm almost 21 years old now! It's not just about cleaning/fixing your teeth here, you get to know everyone that works here and they get to know you! All very cool people and they get the job done right and make you feel good about your teeth and smile!"- M.C. / Yelp / Oct 23, 2019

A number of indicators may suggest that you are clenching your jaw and/or grinding your teeth at night. Maybe you frequently wake up in the morning with pain in your jaw, a headache, and facial swelling. Other symptoms are loosened fillings or teeth, chipped enamel on your back teeth, a receding gumline, and tooth sensitivity. Grinding and clenching at night are usually caused by stress but can also be brought on by a sleep disorder, misaligned teeth, allergies, or temporomandibular joint disorder (called TMD). While Dr. Abraham makes your bruxism diagnosis, he will also find out the cause so that your night guard therapy can be coupled with other treatments for the best possible outcomes.
What to Expect
After Dr. Abraham makes your diagnosis, he will take oral impressions and digital oral x-rays to help create your custom night guard. Next, he will send these details to the dental laboratory where your specialized night guard will be created from the best materials. After your night guard is complete and sent back to us, we will inform you so you can come in for a fitting. Dr. Abraham could make small adjustments so that it fits correctly. You will also be given directions on how to properly care for your night guard so it will last for many years.
For maximum night guard efficiency, you will need to wear it each night. Your night guard should relieve or alleviate the discomfort and dental issues created by bruxism, but if it does not, please contact our office so Dr. Abraham can consider additional issues and try other therapies. In order to help keep your night guard and mouth in good condition, we recommend that you clean and care for both prior to and following each use. Be sure to bring your night guard to all future appointments, exams, and cleanings so Dr. Abraham can repair and adjust the guard as needed.
Once you receive a bruxism diagnosis, some of the cost of your night guard will likely be paid for by your insurance company. If you have dental insurance, our team will call your insurance carrier to obtain your coverage and benefits. During your consultation, Dr. Abraham will provide you with information about our accepted payment methods, as well as your costs, with or without insurance. For more affordable dental care, LifeTime Smiles of OC can help you to qualify for medical financing.
